Toddlers Make Rocky Road Treats for Macmillan Coffee Morning

Daisykins Day Nursery in Rugby held an Autumn Parent/Carer Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 27th September 2019. In preparation for this, the children in Toddler Room set to work on making some delicious treats for their friends and family.

The children discussed the ingredients they needed to make Rocky Road and put all the equipment onto the table. The practitioner explained that the biscuits needed to be in small pieces and the children helped to put them into food bags and crumble them with their strong muscles.

Next they talked about the chocolate and how they would mix it in. One of the children told the practitioner that it needed to go into the microwave. This led to an important discussion about the safety of using electrical equipment, the heat from the side of the mixing bowl and the contents of the bowl getting very hot.

The children each had a turn at adding in the chocolate, raisins and marshmallows. They then covered the cake tin with butter and took turns in pouring the mixture into it, using the spoon to even it out. To finish, the children sprinkled fudge pieces on top and drizzled milk, white and dark chocolate onto their tray bake.

Toddlers' Rocky Road both looked and smelt amazing! We wonder if there was any left for us...
