Pre-School Minors Adopt Their Own Reading Teddies

At Daisykins Day Nursery in Rugby we strongly believe in the importance of reading to children from an early age. In attempt to encourage children to read more often we have implemented an 'Adopt a Reading Teddy' scheme for the children in our Pre-School Minors room.

After their register time, the children were told the story of the Reading Fairy! She visited the nursery yesterday and left behind a trail of books for the children to follow, leading them to their hidden gifts!

The Reading Fairy lay a trail of books from the Pre-School Minors room to Daisy Tumble, where their new furry friends were awaiting their arrival. As they followed the trail the children each picked up one of the books and continued to our designated two-levelled soft play area.

Once they had entered, the children took off their shoes and began their search for the cuddly toy with the tag with their name on. The practitioners encouraged the children to follow prepositional clues to find their teddy. They were really pleased that some of the children understood the prepositional language that they used!

Each child found their teddy and sat, ready to find out what they were for. One of the practitioners explained that the children had especially been chosen to look after the cuddly toys and had a special task to do each day.

The practitioner explained that reading is great fun, and asked each child to read a story to their teddy bear each day. They told the children about how they have now adopted their teddy bear and are responsible for ensuring their teddy bear has a story each day.

Their faces lit up with excitement as they cuddled their new fluffy friends. We are looking forward to hearing all about the stories they have been reading to their teddy bear!
