Visit to the Space Centre in Leicester

Early in July the Pre-school Great dais children and staff went on a trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester as part of their topic . Walking towards the entrance of the Space centre the children were getting excited looking at the various space models on display.

As they walked into the centre there was a life sized space shuttle on display, allowing the children to look at one in intricate detail. This set the scene immediately for the children and started the tour off in excitement. Parents accompanied the group for the day, children and adults looked at all the different space objects and colourful interactive displays.

One part of the tour was particularly enjoyable for both staff and children. We were able to broadcast our own weather report and watch it back amongst others at the space centre. The children became actively involved copying what the practitioners were saying and watching the weather report afterwards commenting on how well they did.

During the day a wide range of equipment were displayed for children to explore and press buttons, the equipment stimulated children's brain and got them thinking about the universe in which we live. The Nationals Space enables children of 3 years and above to take part in hands on experiences and truly learn how things work, it allows children the opportunity to focus on detail and learn about early science.

Our Great dais children all had a very exciting and enjoyable educational visit to the Space Centre in Leicester, they brought ideas back to nursery and discussed these during circle time.
