Play time with Bo

The children in Great Dais Pre School and Toddler room had a very exciting afternoon playing with our Daisykins hamster Bo. Bo is a much loved pet and the children all have the opportunity to take her home for sleepovers and to fill in a diary about her stay.

This is a very effective way to create positive parent partnerships resulting in the children feeling more secure at nursery. By involving the children is Bo’s care routine it encourages independence and makes them more aware about what is needed to remain healthy. Through the children creating a bond with Bo she can make them feel more settled when arriving at nursery and can become a source of comfort for the children. Many of the parents encourage their anxious children to settle at nursery by discussing Bo and getting the children excited to see her. Whilst having Bo out at nursery the practitioners encouraged the children to identify her features discussing her small ears and her small pink nose developing an understanding of the world around them.
