It's cooking time at daisykins nursery in Rugby

Cooking experiences at Daisykins nursery in Rugby are a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about where food comes and what it tastes like, it can also enable them to learn a range of new skills whilst being supported by our practitioners. A group of children followed a simple recipe and took it in turns to add the ingredients. Children were using the electronic scales to weigh ,measure, count, recognise numbers and understand mathematical language (heavier, lighter, more than, less than). Once children become more confident in cooking they are able use their skills to create their own recipes.

At our nursery in Rugby children of all ages are given the choice to participate in cookery sessions, each experience is tailored to their age and stage of development for example babies will develop their fine and gross motor skills by grasping cooking utensils and picking up ingredients, whereas older children are introduced to science for example learning how raising agents like eggs, baking powder and yeast work to change the ingredients while they cook.
