I am the music man

Instead of playing with musical instruments, children were introduced to using other items to make sounds with. As it was time for song time at Daisykins Nursery, practitioners handed a basket of objects around for the children to choose from. The children were a little puzzled as to where the tambourine and drum was, however to their surprise using a large metal bowl and spoon was a far better drum.

Practitioners from Daisykins Nursery asked the children what they wanted to sing and the children all shouted Baa Baa Black sheep, after counting to up three the children used their creativity and expressive skills and made music using the objects they each had. Some children tapped the two bowls together, one child used the wooden spoon to tap on the bottom of the cake tin and others created various other sounds some slow, some fast.

The children had so much fun and they couldn't wait to do it all over again with the next song. This activity enabled children to express their creativity and learn about different sounds eg quiet loud, fast, slow etc. It also gave them the opportunity to discover other ways of creating sounds. To read more about using pots and pans as musical instruments click here.
