Daisykins Introduces: 'Bakin' Dais'

At Daisykins Day Nursery in Rugby, the children love engaging in cooking and baking activities. Cooking and baking supports children to develop essential life skills, such as following instructions, measuring and recognising numbers. Not only do children develop these skills, but this type of activity also encourages children to develop fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination.

We believe that spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking new recipes helps children to develop positive outlook to all varieties of food. Forming these experiences with fresh and homemade foods is essential as these are the foods that are the foundation of good nutrition. We understand that children may be fussy eaters, or may not be interested in trying new foods, and use this approach to encourage them to do so. By making the food themselves, the children are excited to try their own baking. Next time you've had enough of fighting a battle with your child, trying to taste new foods, give baking a try!

Children learn by using their senses, and what a better activity to do than one that incorporates all 5! Whether it's helping you to prepare dinner, making some scrumptious treats or helping to do the weekly shopping, there are many ways of educating your child about food. Be sure to talk to your child when baking, asking them about the foods they like and dislike, what they are doing and what they would like to make next time. After all, baking is a great way to spend family time together! How does Daisykins Day Nursery support families to bake at home, you ask? Introducing: 'Bakin' Dais'!

Each week, recipes, ingredients and information on the concept will be placed in bags in the reception area of the nursery for parents/carers to take home when dropping off/picking up their child. This is completely free of charge and encourages parents/carers to spend time with their child developing vital skills whilst engaging in a fun activity, such as baking!

We can't wait to see the parents/carers' home observations of their child engaging in the 'Bakin' Dais' activities!
