Our Pre-School children at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby have turned into budding artists this month, creating their own self portraits.
Practitioner Kirsty set up a mirror and different coloured paints at a table in the creative area. She then encouraged the children to take it in turns to sit in front of the mirror and explained to them that they were going to use the paint and paintbrushes to paint what they could see.
She asked them what their eye, hair and skin colours were, ensuring she had particular colours to match them all. The children then chose the colours they wanted to use and painted their own faces on to the paper. The pictures the children created were pieces of art and were used to make a Welcome to Pre-School display as you reach their room at the top of the stairs.
Practitioners at Daisykins ensured that every child was given the chance to have a turn and following on from this the children are going to do portraits of the staff so watch this space!
