Instead of growing potatoes in the ground or in a plant pot, the children at Daisykins nursery in Rugby filled up an old tyre with soil. They used their little spades to help one another fill the tyre up. Practitioner Carly supported the children and extended their learning by asking them questions for example “What’s the name of this part?” the children said “The roots”. The children made little holes in the soil and buried their potatoes deep into the soil, they patted the soil down and one child said “It’s having a nap”
Over the next coming weeks our little gardeners will be watching their potatoes grow and providing them with the necessary care that they need, and soon enough the potatoes will be ready to be harvested.
