Dig Dig Digging

A group of children from Middle floor continued to explore our growing area with our chef Wendy and they remembered where they had planted the potatoes. The children have been caring for our potatoes for over several months, watering them and watching them grow, however it was now the time to see if the potatoes had grown.

Some children used trowels to sift through the compost whereas others didn't mind getting their hands dirty. The children worked closely together to dig around the compost and they found several different sized potatoes, each potato was handed to the chef Wendy and placed in the tray. Some of the potatoes still had the roots attached to them and the children examined the length and texture of the roots. This gardening experience was a great way for children to learn more about how and where foods grows. The potatoes will accompany one of Wendy's healthy delicious meals.
